What are piping systems?

Essential to the industrial world, pipes are tubes made of metal that carry liquids, gases, particles, etc. In general, piping systems are considered the complete interconnection of pipes, pipe fittings, flanges, pumps, heat exchanges, valves, and tanks.

In order to design, manufacturer, and install piping systems, it is necessary to establish the requirements of the system as an entirety. To do so, we review the properties of the fluid or material being transported, pressure drops and energy loss, space limitations, temperature, etc.

Piping Materials

Depending on the specific needs and functions will determine the proper materials of the piping system. The piping codes will also ensure that the material being used is safe for the pressure, temperature, and any anticipated corrosion and erosion.

We ensure we are following codes from the American National Standard Institute and International Organizations for Standards which include standards from the following:

• The American Petroleum Institute (API)
• The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)
• The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
• American Welding Society (AWS)
• American Water Works Association (AWWA)
• The Manufacturers Standardization Society of Valves and Fitting Industry – Standard Practices (MSS-SP)

Prefabrication

Marx understands that the project schedule, budget, and logistics are imperative to a successful project. Marx has been an industry leader in developing new ideas and methods to not only increase efficiency but to deliver a higher quality repeatable and predictable product built safely and locally with a sensitivity towards the owner’s scheduling demands.

In addition, we will design and implement the proper fittings for your system. Our CAD system produces spool pieces with a numbering system to go directly to the site.

We can create underground plumbing “spool maps” where each color represents a different pre-fabricated spool. These are fabricated prior to arriving at the site, expediting the underground process.

We will also work within your budget and timeframe to implement design features and leave room for insulation, drainage, and supports.

Our team also follows LEAN construction methods and employs these techniques to other mechanical scopes, such as plumbing, duct assemblies, piping assemblies, and modular. Our prefabrication process is linked electronically and digitally to our state-of-the-art BIM/VDC department where we track progress through custom fabrication and delivery schedule, providing a step-by-step guide for the entire manufacturing process, from spooling to delivery and install which builds the model in real-time.
